Selama bertugas, Ipda Herman mengaku jarang menghadapi hambatan berarti.

Merdey Police Chief: The Police Must Always Be Present and Do Good for the People
By: MA/Kadate – Inspirasi Papua
BINTUNI, KADATE/Inspirasi Papua – Amid the celebration of the 79th Bhayangkara Day, a sense of gratitude and dedication radiated from the face of Ipda Herman Samberi. The Merdey Police Chief attended the ceremony at Teluk Bintuni Police Headquarters on Tuesday (July 1, 2025), carrying a simple yet profound hope: that the National Police will always remain a friend to the people.
“The police must be present in the daily lives of the community. We are here for them,” he said with conviction.
Since taking office as the Merdey Police Chief a year and two months ago, Ipda Herman has been responsible for security in nine districts across the Moskona region — a vast area marked by geographic challenges but one that remains safe and under control.
“There are no disturbances. Everything runs smoothly. This is thanks to good cooperation with the community,” he said.
During his service, Ipda Herman admitted he rarely faced significant obstacles. The relationship between Merdey Police personnel and local residents is also very close.
“We maintain communication. They know we’re not here to intimidate, but to protect,” he explained.
The Merdey Police Station is now equipped with supporting facilities such as an office and both two- and four-wheeled vehicles. However, challenges remain — particularly regarding communication networks.
“Our only issue is the internet. In Merdey, we use the BAKTI service. When many people are connected, the network slows down,” he said with a smile.
Ipda Herman has served in Teluk Bintuni for 21 years, from 2004 until now. A long period that has allowed him to deeply understand the local community and become an integral part of it.
Concluding the conversation, he shared a message for the younger generation of police officers, especially the new recruits starting their careers in the 79th year of the Indonesian National Police.
“Always do good to others. Stay close to the people. That is where trust is born,” he said firmly. ***
